Sewage odors do not always disappear when the visible water is gone. Contamination can remain in carpet, padding, drywall, wood and other porous materials, and a lingering smell is often a sign that something in the space is still holding it.
Sewage odor removal in Portsmouth, NH starts by locating and removing the source, whether that is contaminated material or an area that was missed during cleanup. Surfaces are then cleaned and sanitized, and the space is dried and ventilated so deodorizing treatments can work on what remains instead of masking it for a few days.
Common hiding places for sewage odor include the padding under carpet, the bottom of drywall, the cavities inside walls, subfloors, and air ducts if contaminated air or moisture reached them. Odors that return in humid weather, or that seem stronger near baseboards or floor edges, often mean some material is still holding contamination.
Ventilation and moisture control help the treatment last. Drying the space, running air movement and dehumidification as needed, and repairing the plumbing problem that caused the loss all matter, because a leaking line or damp materials will bring the smell back. If you are dealing with a lingering odor in Portsmouth, NH, it helps to say when the sewage loss happened and what was cleaned, so the source can be traced more efficiently.
